Our son, Ben Wilson was the inspiration behind Useful Vision when he was blinded during treatment for cancer at the age of 5. Like many other parents we found it difficult to locate activities that would stimulate and entertain Ben enabling him to get the most out of life. By establishing this charity Useful Vision hopes to make access to these things easier for other families of vision impaired children and their siblings across the North East.

Funds are raised through annual events, local business support and by individuals fundraising in a variety of ways; be it by running The Great North Run, having a party or even a pony club event.

We can supply a fundraising pack including balloons, sponsorship forms and tips.

We are pushing hard to create a positive future for vision impaired children, their parents and siblings and we hope you will want to take advantage of what we offer.

‘When my late nephew Ben lost his sight, it brought home to me the challenges facing families with a visually impaired child. Finding suitable leisure activities, accessing information, and learning about the latest equipment and technology aids was often an uphill struggle. Ben was the inspiration for Useful Vision which was set up in 2005.

Since then Useful Vision has become the lead provider of events and activities designed specifically for vision impaired children and their families in the North East.
I am delighted to be its Patron and support the work it does’.
