As well as the family events, we offer
a grant scheme. Typically these can be used for equipment
that is not provided by the state, or to help with the costs
of a new hobby, music lessons, computer programmes, etc.
This can be for visually impaired children or their siblings
as they are often forgotten. We try to make sure that the
whole family benefits from the events and grants offered by
the charity. Examples of things UV have
helped provide with the grant scheme
A tandem to enable a blind boy to go cycling with the rest
of his family.
Fees for a summer Drama school for a visually impaired child
who is a budding actor.
A special car seat for a child so he can be more comfortable
on family days out.
Climbing equipment for a visually impaired child who came
on a UV climbing trip and loved it so much he now goes regularly
as it is a sport he can manage and achieves great things.
A piano for a visually impaired child who was showing real
progress at school but needed a piano at home to practice
for grades and exams.
Providing help to purchase an all terrain buggy for 7 year
old William from Middlesbrough. Specially designed for children
with special needs, the chair will accommodate older children
providing postural support alongside features that handle
rough terrain.
Our limited budget means that each application needs to be
assessed by the UV committee. If
you have a genuine need, contact us for an application form.
