UCAN from Cardiff ran one of their popular drama workshops for Useful Vision at Newcastle College from Tue 25th to Thu 27th October, kindly sponsored by The Prime Fund.

The team of three professional actors from UCAN in Cardiff worked with ten vision impaired children and three siblings to put on a great performance on the final day, to which family members were invited. One of the major pieces was called the ‘Bendy Stoopers’ about people who couldn’t stand up straight because of an evil queen’s spell – of course the wicked queen was overthrown in the end! The children also learned to play the ukulele and made up their own song. One of the young actors was thrilled that they were “just like the real thing” when they gave their performance, and more than a few of the audience were moved to tears!

....Volunteers play a vital role in the running of Useful Vision.  Their involvement helps us to reduce running costs and ensures that most of the funds we raise go on activities and events for our children, young people  and families.

Volunteers helping at Riding Day 2010

Volunteers are needed to help at activities, events and classes during weekends and school holidays.  Voluteering with Useful Vision is not a huge commitment and it can be a very rewarding experience.  All we ask is your time for 2 or 3 activities a year.  For this we offer training and support  to volunteer,  as well as out of pocket expenses.
