This event was kindly sponsored by Children in Need and took place on 18th September 2011 at Whickham Thorns Outdoor Activity Centre. 18 vision impaired children with seven siblings and 24 adults had a fantastic day skimming down the slopes on sledges and big rubber rings.

Even the intermittent rain didn’t put a dampener on the day; it just made the slopes even faster! Nobody really knew what to expect beforehand as this was the first time we had run this activity, but it was such a success that we will definitely offer it again in future.

....Volunteers play a vital role in the running of Useful Vision.  Their involvement helps us to reduce running costs and ensures that most of the funds we raise go on activities and events for our children, young people  and families.

Volunteers helping at Riding Day 2010

Volunteers are needed to help at activities, events and classes during weekends and school holidays.  Voluteering with Useful Vision is not a huge commitment and it can be a very rewarding experience.  All we ask is your time for 2 or 3 activities a year.  For this we offer training and support  to volunteer,  as well as out of pocket expenses.
