Join the Junior Great North Run to raise money for Useful Vision
The Junior Great North Run takes place in Newcastle and Gateshead every September as part of the Great North Run weekend. The Junior Run, open to children aged 9 – 16 years old, is a daring dash across 4 km while the 1.5 km Mini sprint is open to children aged 3 – 8. Could you take on the challenge for Useful Vision on Saturday 9th September?
The Junior GNR is an amazing opportunity to take part in an exciting and active event while fundraising for a fantastic cause. This year, we encourage you to join the race for Useful Vision, the North East’s leading registered charity supporting visually impaired children and their families.
Last year, Mabel Sime, who is visually impaired and has attended Useful Vision for many years, completed the Junior GNR and raised an impressive £600! Her incredible fundraising efforts directly supported exclusive events, activities, and workshops for visually impaired children across the region. We’re a small charity and every donation makes such a difference. By participating in the Junior Great North Run, you too can help raise awareness and funds to support our vital work – creating opportunities for visually impaired children and their families.

The Junior GNR is non-competitive, and there are no time limits or requirements to complete the course. Children are invited to take part at their own pace and enjoy the experience of running. The course is suitable for wheelchair users with a dedicated wheelchair start and visually impaired runners may be accompanied by a guide runner at no additional cost.
The Junior Great North Run provides a safe and supportive environment for children to participate in physical activity while raising money for charity. As well as bragging rights, each participant will earn a special medal for their efforts. With plenty of encouragement and high-fives from the crowds, it’s sure to be an action-packed day with an atmosphere like no other!
The event completely sold out in 2022 and this year is expected to be even bigger.
